Senior Citizen Organization

The Senior Citizen Organization (SCO)  started on January 7, 1994, since then meetings are held twice a month.

Purpose of SCO  was to bring seniors together and meet their social, emotional, recreational and physical needs.

Indians take good care of their parents, however sometime physical and emotional needs are overlooked because of lack of time.  Elderly find themselves alone and weak.   They cannot socialize with neighbors due to lack of language barriers, cannot go anywhere because they cannot drive, so the elderly become dependent for all their needs resulting in loss of independence and depression.

The goal is to promote good physical and emotional health and enhance their understanding of preventive health methods.

We had speakers from breast cancer prevention, orthopedic to promote understanding of arthritic problems in old age osteoporosis, joint pain and how to care with with, cataract lectures on how to notice and care for dry eyes, glaucoma, floats, etc.  We also had speakers on oral hygiene; gum disease, denture, etc.

Exercise is an integral part of our meetings, emphasizing importance of stretching exercise, yoga and walking.  Half an hour is kept for exercise.

We have remarkable volunteers who drive elderly back and forth from Anaheim Hills, Huntington Beach, Fountain Valley, Newport Beach, Yorba Linda, Irvine, Santa Ana, Tustin and Orange.

More elderly would like to come and join us, however due to lack of transportation, they are unable to come.  This is the area where we need to work.  Working together, with parents and children, we can accomplish our goals in providing quality and healthy care for our elders.
